Rose actually handled the flight from Heathrow to Dubai like a brave little soldier, although she is still apprehensive about scorpions cropping up in the desert…
What can we say about the flight itself, Emirates have mood lighting down to a T and excellent cheddar and chive mash potatoes. Cute baby behind us managed to keep its wailing to a minimum and the sunrise was fairly spectacular.
As for Dubai… The tallest building in Torbay is what, the Grand Hotel? My jaw has been permanently dropped since leaving the airport terminal (the pillars in there sparkle when sunlight hits them!!) I’m starting to think that this place doesn’t actually exist and really the plane food is drugged and we’ve all mass hallucinated the existence of this city. It is beautiful though, despite its craziness, for example every ceiling seems to have twinkling stars, so at some point I will walk into a pillar or post whilst staring up.
Also, I’m not yet burnt, woop.
Jade couldn’t have been more impressed with the fact we had ACTUAL METAL CUTLERY and a menu on the flight. I mean, really, this is a thing? Go Emirates.
I don’t feel like we’re fending for ourselves jusssst yet…a double bed each and staying with my family doesn’t exactly constitute ‘traveling’ does it? Nor does searching Dubai Mall for a beeswax lipbalm (ROSE)…but thank god for Kirsty as our tour guide. And of course the Burj/Wiz Khalifa is as impressive as ever!!
All in all, I couldn’t think of a better way to start our trip! Maybe because I still think it’s just an awesome holiday…(it is)
Lots of love from Jade and Rose in the Giles’ suntrap x
