On the 7th May we arrived at Phi Phi from Phuket (this was also my mums 50th birthday, so happy birthday to Jax!) We met up with Ibs and Tom in Phuket and decided we definitely wanted to do a boat trip to Maya bay – ‘The Beach’ beach. So, on our first evening in Phi Phi we got settled into our tree hut accommodation on the edge of the island and made the literal jungle trek towards the pier. I will never be able to express how much we were all sweating uncontrollably – when the Thai’s say it’s hot, you know it’s hot. Then we watched a fire show at Carlitos Bar just to add more heat to the equation.

Bob’s Booze Cruise had been recommended to us, and no it’s not as tacky as it sounds! Bob had taken 8 years to sail his boat over from Canada, and now has a pretty sweet little money maker set up. There were 17 people on the boat, and one of the first things we had to do was write our names on our arms with a marker pen. Oh also, it was all-you-can-drink, so this was going to be fun…

First stop was an monkey beach. BEBBEH MONKEEEES! Needless to say very cute. Even how the adult monkeys politely take the food from your hand when you offer it to them! However, i really overestimated my snorkelling abilities and did the classic chugging 10 gallons of sea water after jumping off the side of the boat and trying not to drown on the swim over to the beach. So i hitched a ride on the back of Alice’s kayak…far more exciting slash do-able.

Next up was cliff jumping…we left this to the boys, and were super impressed by their macho bravery (show offs).

Bob gave us a bit of a history/geography lesson about the ‘bird snot’ on Phi Phi Leh. Apparently it’s worth more than silver and pesky thieves climb up shifty bamboo sticks to try and steal it. Tut tut. We stopped for an hour in a little cove with beautiful clear water and a 5 minute walk through to Maya Bay…

Ta da! It genuinely felt like a film set walking through the jungley bit and suddenly emerging onto an incredible beach, and i suppose it is! Leo eat your heart out.
